• When creating a new page, WP 3 Multisite is creating an Auto Draft of it. “Auto Draft” then appears in the sites nav menu along with the same page which is the correctly named version.

ie “Auto Draft” and “New Home Page” appear as links in the site menu. Both link to the same page – “New Home Page”.

I have found a plugin which switches off the revision feature in Page edit screen.

Any pointers on how to can get rid of existing Auto Draft page – btw it doesn’t show up in the Pages list backend.

  • Empty it out of your trash?

    Thanks Andrea.

I did that before posting here.

There’s no “Trash” link up top of the Page edit screen, just “All” and “Published”.

They show all three normal and correct pages, but Auto Save still shows up on the live site.

Weird. Could it be a cache issue?

I think the issue may be that the client trashed the default “About” page in some way so as to cause and Auto Draft to show up.

The temp fix is to edit the list pages call in the header to exclude the Auto Save page’s id.

Other pages newly created don’t seem to have this problem.

Still a weird one though. Anyone stumbling on this post in future with a clue as to how to clean the db of this “phantom” auto-saved page would be appreciated.

If you’re willing to go hunting in the db and find it, it’s gotta be in there somewhere, right?

To delete these pages you need to use a MySQL front end, go to the posts table, sort on post_status and all the auto-drafts will come to the top for ease of deletion. Seems to be a WP core problem – every time I login or switch to the dashboard page an auto draft is created unless there is one in the posts table already. Search Unleashed finds them, which is a further embarrassment, and duplicates can be created.

AButlwer You have the answer I was looking for. It took me 3 days to figure it out and finally I ran into your solution. Anyone with auto draft issues follow AButlwer’s advise. Thank you very very much my friend you saved me quite a lot of time/grief.

Thank you AButler. I went to the database and deleted the auto-draft posts – that solved the problem. Thanks a lot ??
