• Hello,

Once an administrator is removed can he somehow get back into my WordPress?

I have this crazy web designer who broke into my site, made himself the administrator and completely removed me where I have no power. He did this because I owed him money on ANOTHER site…I didn’t even owe him money for the site he took for hostage.

Anyway, once he returns it to me will he be able to ever break in again? I’m scared because I don’t know this guy and I don’t know what he could possibly do…

    Please advise

    Thanks!

  • Well not to condone his actions but the best bet is to pay him (if he did work for you and you owe him) then he probably won’t have any reason to mess with any of your site(s).

Not sure if he can get in, he’s gotten in once so it is safe to assume he could get in again. I would change all user names and passwords and make a backup of the WP files and the Db just to be on the safe side.

    Just my 2 cents. ??

What BPartch said. Although I do not condone what the web designer allegedly did, pay him already. Since the designer did not put down your site, (because if he did I am sure you would have mentioned it already) it shows some measure of restraint.

Now, having said that, any webmaster worth his/her salt knows that the WP admin area is not the only place to get access to adding/deleting users and/or wreaking havoc with your server files and folders. Where are you hosted? Ask your webhost service how you can secure your webhosting account with them. Is the webhosting account and domain name account in your name in the first place? Make sure both are.

mercime is on the right track here. Hopefully the designer isn’t hosting your WordPress site.
