• I’ve been advised by my VPS hosting service that my server is full and I need to upgrade to a larger server and or optimize my current site. I cannot log into WP admin and am unable to do anything at this juncture. My VPS has tow domains, the current live site and an older version that I was using for testing. I have attempted to remove the old site in WHM and also by deleting data in Cpanel. In each case, I get error messages that say the server is full and my requests cannot be completed. Any suggestions for work arounds short of hiring someone? Hosatgator is unable or unwilling to provide support for this issue, even though they are my hosting service.

    Do you have SSH access?

If you do, then you can login and do this from the command line:

    cd /path/to/wp-to-remove
    rm -fr *

Note: This is not undoable, so make sure you’re in the right place before doing the rm command. Also, via FTP or some other method, download at directory tree first, so you have a backup.

An SSH account? I don’t believe so and am not aware of what that is> All I have as near as I can tell) is a Cpanel account and a WHM account.

…I do have the FileZilla app on my PC however

Try doing the deleting via FileZilla. It will take a bit longer, but should work.

If you don’t know what SSH is, should you really be using a VPS? Generally, one assumes that someone with a VPS knows Linux sysadmin.

You’re quite right of course. as a novice builder I think I was taken advantage of by the sales people at Hostgator when the image sizes/load and functions of my site seemed to exceed the standard public server environment. Even with your comment about using FileZilla, I have no idea of how to use and accomplish that objective -I’ve only used the application to bulk upload my photographic images I suspect there’ll be a fundamental change in my approach to selling my images online as soon as my VPS hosting service service expires in April 2024

This is beyond wordpress support. I’ll leave you with this:

    https://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Using

Navigate to the directory in question. Download it, then delete it.

Excellent! Thanks so much for your support. A sad situation indeed; site down and inaccessible. No real skills to remedy the situation. Again, thanks for the referral.
