• Hey

I today installed version 3.6.1 and suddenly I can’t view any of my posts anymore… they all give “404” errors (my main page still works fine but as soon as I try to go into a gallery, bam 404…

I don’t care about those 13 bug fixes as all worked fine for me before. How can I install back 3.6.0 ?

    Thanks!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I can see what happened, not sure WHY it happened or how to fix it… ALL my posts have suddenly got the same permalink (one that doesn’t exist to boot).. so they all go to the same nonexistant url…

Worse, I see no way to change permalinks… there is a button on my post(s) page called “get shortlink” next to the wrong permalink that if I click it gives me the correct like it should url in a new window box… but somehow it changed all my posts to the wrong non-editable permalink…. ??

Did you try any of the suggestions I posted above?

Deleting everything beside content. Then going to re-upload.

Tried deactivating all plugins, using the default theme.. all same problem ?? I really think it during the upgrade hardcoded overwritten all those permalinks in some database somewhere for some reason ??

Um it’s asking me for database config settings ?? I guess a database is already present (I really really can’t loose my current data)

How do I know what to enter here ?

It asks for database name, login and stuff…

I just don’t want to enter something wrong and risk it overwriting all my data…

Oh man, why do I feel I made everything worse with deleting my files (ecept content directory) ? ??

Is it safe to just give in the exact same database name as it is currently listed in my phpmyadmin ? with same login etc ?

That will NOT overwrite it right? it will just “use it” ?

@esmi (Theme Diva & Forum Moderator)

Is it safe to use same settings ? I don’t know what to do…

Did you delete your wp-config.php file?

    Thread Starter Verplancke Jeroen

    (@jeroenverplancke)

I think so… I deleted everything except my wp-content directory. I have my database info from my host but I do not know if it is safe to just enter it, will it “see” that it exists and use it or just plain overwrite it with empty tables ?

But I only did exactly what you told me ?? These were the instructions:

    “- re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder ”

You will need to re-construct your wp-config.php file manually using wp-config-sample.php as a template.

I only did exactly what you told me

There is no wp-config.php file in a fresh download of WordPress…

Ok, I got it working again and back to the original problem. It didn’t fix anything it seems… The valid permalinks are still in there because when I use the “get shortlink” button on the posts it gives me the right one in the output window.. but it lists (non editable) a wrong one (a static one) to the left of that get shortlink button…

Even when I manually paste the right url into my browser it “redirects” me to the wrong “permanent permalink” listed in the post.

    Try resetting your permalinks.

And how do I do that ?
