Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme! Your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress or the theme. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

I think there’s some confusion here. Do you want to hide the Admin bar or the Twenty Ten Top navigation menu?

I’m trying to eliminate the black nav menu that is just below the header graphic.

Or, if this is going to mess up the site, maybe someone can recommne another simple theme that does not have the problem nav bar?

In that case, you need to create a child theme.

I am also using the 2010 Theme and have not found a way to get rid of the text right above my header. On the left side it says ‘My Blog’ where ‘Twenty Ten’ used to be (guessing I named it ‘My Blog’) and on the right side it says ‘Just another WordPress site’. How do I make that go away? Can I do it without creating a child? I cannot imaging anyone wanting to keep that in there.

Woops…meant to say – I cannot imagine anyone wanting to keep that in there.

    No – that’s not recommended.

Got it…thanks. Maybe I should select a different theme that won’t have that issue.

They all have that written at the top of them, and yet I do not see that on any blogs on the Internet. How does everyone get rid of the text above the header? I’m confused.

On some themes, you can amend the theme directly – providing you never update the theme again or you will lose all of your customisations. Some newer themes also allow you to create child themes so that you can upgrade the main theme but keep your customisations safe in the child theme. Twenty Ten is a special case as it will be replaced every time you upgrade WordPress – thus over-writing all of your changes. This is why we recommend that you create a child theme.

I see – thanks for the explanation. I will create the child. After I do that I may have to come back to find out how to get rid of the text in the child. Thanks for you help.
