    Hi,

I have a bit of an issue where I’m using Yoast to customise seo meta, page titles, etc. AMP seems to be putting the default h1 page title as the page name.

    example url: https://www.sheilds.org/qualifications/amp/
In the content of the above page url the H1 is set manually to “Health & Safety Qualifications”, but yoast is setting the page name “qualifications” as the H1 too.

This means both default title “Qualifications” and manually entered h1 “Health & Safety Qualifications” as set as H1. I only want the H1 that I manually set, not the default page title as the H1.

I notice the home page has a setting to remove the H1 it would normally add to the home page. This setting is called “Title on Static Front Page” and I set this to “off”, which is great and removes the default H1 that would normally be added to the home page.

How can I achieve the same thing on normal pages?

For now I have had to set my normal manually entered H1 to H2, which messes with my heading structure and serps.

    Thanks

  • This isn’t a design fault on the part of the plugin but how you have named your pages. Again I had this issue but on tag pages for me. If I understand correctly, rename you page properly to ‘HEALTH & SAFETY QUALIFICATIONS’ then change the text for themenu item. Added bonus is that yoast will by default pick up the correct page title too.

The AMP page will then take the title you want. Both pages will have the same h1 and the same page title in the meta.

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, although I had setup my site this way on purpose. I’ll look into it and see if this works for me.

I would prefer to see the option to remove static title which is an option for the frontpage.

    Thank you

Really it is a robust solution. By doing things this way the structured data will also be correct – have you looked at that? The problem in having the option to remove the static title is that the page / post tile is used in other places apart from what you see. For example how can the structured headline attribute be set from an H1 which is manually set? You would end up with a mismatch.

I understand the issue but you have named your pages for admin convenience as opposed to giving them the real name you want. It won’t take much to change page names and do a few alterations in the menu. Good luck – you will work it out.

    Hi,

I have changed that one page title. Which is fitting for my purposes.

I noticed an issue on the /blog/amp/ page itself, which again is showing two H1 headings. This time my blog page has the full title “SHEilds Health & Safety Blog”, but as the H1 doesn’t normally get shown from the default page name in my theme, I manually added the H1 – this causes the issue with amp showing two titles.

I have tried with the amp page builder and custom amp editor to get this page to look good, but there are issues, so I’m just in the middle of sorting this page out.

I don’t usually list links to author, category and other parts that amp adds. It’s showing text for links to images as well as the image, so the page really doesn’t work well using my theme and is quite messed up in appearance.

I will no doubt eventually sort this out using the custom amp editor in the end, but isn’t working well with my blog short codes at present, I’ll make some teaks to get there.

Thank you for your suggestions once again.

There is an option to tun meta info off completely on pages. Try that.

    Hi frenchomatic / ampforwp

I toggled the meta option you mentioned, but this only appears to remove the ‘author’ from the page content, all other meta (i’m using yoast) seems to be there. So, I guess this option just removes the amp specific meta stuff; and not normal page meta data, such as description, keywords, etc.

I can email your support, but last time I did so, I was requested I setup a dev/copy of my site so your support could access and inspect the issue I was experiencing. (I have purchased your amp extensions also).

The problem here is that I really don’t have the time to provide access for a development area, I have a lot on atm. I believe the issues that accelerated amp is suffering is due to my theme perhaps. The theme I’m using is ‘Enfold’.

Wouldn’t it be much more universally easier and more flexible to just compensate for theme conflicts by adding the same code used for the home page providing the option to remove the H1 heading. This option is called Remove “Title on Static Front Page” and have the same option for regular ‘pages’. It would be good to add these for posts too. That would solve things across the board giving better flexibility to users of your plugin.

    Thanks

    Hi @stevepb,

For meta tags, we have an option in SEO section.
You can turn off meta tags if you want.

    Hi,

Thanks, but turning meta off doesn’t remove the H1 Title when I tested this setting.

Steve, you are possibly confusing two issues.

The first issue is you have not named your pages as is used for the h1. You are creating your own h1s in the content area. The current plugin takes the page title as your h1. Yoast SEO will take the very same page title as well by default unless you change it. In your case you are entering your own H1 in the content area and you are defining your own SEO title in yoast.

In a nutshell what you are asking for is a new feature: the ability to turn off the page title from showing on any page /post because you wish to place it in the content. I personally think this will lead to problems as AMP works on page titles and needs them for the structured data.
