• I have a small hobby stick making site….. molecountrysticks.co.uk
I make walking and thumb sticks, create the product and display them on my ‘shop’ page. Once they are sold, I want to move them to a ‘sold stick’ page. But if I delete them from my ‘shop’ page, they are also deleted from my ‘sold stick’ page. Is there a way of getting around this problem…. In the past I have removed the price tag from sold sticks in the shop page, but now there are more sold sticks than sticks for sale…. Which is why I want to create a separate page.

As you may have guessed, I am not computer literate!

  • You’ve got some very well crafted sticks on your site – they look great.

It looks like you’re using the woocommerce plugin to sell items on your site, so you might get a bit more sense from the woocommerce community possibly.

I see you’ve created a category called ‘sold sticks’ so you can already seeing all your sticks that you’ve sold using this link on your site:

So I’m not really sure if I understand what’s missing, because in a sense is showing a separate page for them?

Hi trystan…. Thank you for your kind words.

Yes I have created or should I say my nephew has created a ‘sold sticks’ page. But I cannot remove them from the shop page without deleting them from both the shop and sold sticks page. I do not like to keeping asking him for help as he has a wife and young children x3 to look after. I am trying to sort it out without constantly asking him for help.

I guess it is because they were originally created as a shop product?

I’m sure he doesn’t mind you pestering him really ??

I’ve had a bit of a think about it and had a fiddle with the back-end of woocommerce to see if there is an easy way of doing it, and I think there is ??

You need to create another product category called (say) For Sale
    (Products>Categories)

Alter your menu to show For Sale and Sold

Then when a stick is sold, change its category from For Sale to Sold

Then the ‘sold’ items won’t appear in the ones that are for sale.

All the best, let’s see how you get on with that.

Haha….. I love it when you computer lit guy’s make it sound so easy.

I will have a play and see how I get on:-)

    Thanks trystan.

I am having trouble getting my head around that one?

The shop page is the page the products originate from so cannot be moved or deleted, otherwise it is gone forever… At the moment all ‘sold stick’ automatically go to the sold sticks pages when they have been ticked in the product categories box ‘sold sticks’.

What if I created a new ‘For Sale’ page then did what you suggested above… Then hide the ‘shop’ page? This would then leave a ‘For Sale’ and ‘Sold’ in the click-on menu?

I am sorry if I haven’t explained that very well ??

I’m just about to get onto a tram at the moment, but let’s call one product category ‘shop’ and the other ‘sold’

So one menu item (for product category shop) would show items for sale, and the other for sold.

    Tram here now ??

Whenever I think ‘trams’. the first thing that comes to mind is a visit 20 years ago to San Francisco! Beautiful State and wonderful trams!

O.K…. I have made some progress but have been thwarted by displaying the ‘For Sale’ page? In the pages menu, it has a minus beside it and I cannot work out how to turn that around?
