When I paste a link into Facebook or another social network the preview shows the image and post title but also includes the website name. Ex:

    [PIC]
How to write a blog post – MyXYZsite

Under Search Appearance – Content Types, I correctly have it as only having “Title” in the field (not Site Title). Yet, it still shows every post as “How to write a blog post – MyXYZsite” This used to no be the case. I’m not sure what changed or how I can correct it as I’ve tried just about everything. On other sites I use, this does not seem to be a problem.

I’ve like it to appear like this

    [PIC]
How to write a blog post.

    Any thoughts?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @neutralgroundnews,

It looks like the homepage is set to show the latest posts (see Settings > Reading). If so and you’re using Yoast SEO 16.5, you can change the default social titles by going to SEO > General.

You can find the social settings under the Homepage section and remove the title variable if it appears. Does this solve the problem?

Thanks for the response, Priscilla. I’ve given that a shot and flushed the site’s cache a few moments ago but thus far it has not resolved it. I’ll check it again shortly and see if it takes hold and let you know. I appreciate the help.

    Hi @neutralgroundnews

We checked on your latest post on the website you’ve referenced, and it looks like there are two og:title tags outputting in the source code, one coming from the Yoast SEO plugin (with the correct output that doesn’t have the site title), and another one coming from another plugin or theme (with the incorrect title).

You can view the source code of your latest post and find the og:title output from the Yoast SEO plugin on line 18, and the incorrect og:title output from line 183. Once you’ve removed the duplicate output, and ensured that the open graph output is only coming from the Yoast SEO plugin, you can scrape the URL again on Facebook’s Sharing Debugger Tool and it should show the correct social preview then.

    We hope this helps!

Hi Michael. Awesome, thank you so much! I’m looking at the areas you mentioned and see it in the code. Do you have any idea how to figure out what plugin would be doing this? I’m stumped. I can’t think of what could be causing it.

@neutralgroundnews We’d recommend checking both your theme’s settings as well as any other plugin that might manage metadata or social sharing features.

If you are unsure which plugin is causing the additional set of Open Graph tags to be output we would recommend performing a conflict check and disabling other plugins and then reviewing your page’s source code to check whether the other Open Graph tags have been removed.

I used the Health Check plugin and it seems to have resolved without me figuring out what actually caused it or happened. While confused, I’ll still take it! Hopefully, it holds up and continues working as desired. I’ll check on it again next week to re-verify. Thank you all for the help!

    Hi @neutralgroundnews

We checked the latest post on your website and we can confirm that there’s only 1 og:title tag appearing now, and it’s coming from the Yoast SEO plugin output.

We recommend scraping the URL a few times on Facebook’s Sharing Debugger Tool until you get the correct preview for the title.

We’re glad we could be of help! We’ll be setting this to resolved. Please feel free to reopen the topic if you still encounter any issues.
