Remove or hide date & author on front page

  • Hi
    I am new to WordPress and have just created my site. I can not seem to remove/hide the date & author on the front page. I have Goggle it and followed the CSS method with no success and then downloaded Plug In ‘WP Meta and Date remover’ same , no success.
    What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?
