Remove grey space on sides of navigation menu

    I have a child theme and my website is https://www.cryptorushnews.com. I’m using the most up to date twenty twelve theme and WordPress version 3.9.2.

    I have applied some CSS that added a background color and rounded edges on my navigation menu. Now there is a space to the left and right of the menu that has a grey area. How do I remove this grey area? The below link is an image of my site with the above referenced areas boxed in red. Thanks!
