Remove featured content from twenty fourteen

I’m using the theme twenty fourteen as a base when building my own theme. It works fine accept for the featured content part. I want my sticky posts to display as a normal sticky post in the news feed and not as a featured content. I want to delete the whole function.

Any suggestions how to make that happen? I’ve tried to remove everything I’ve found about it in my functions file, but it didn’t help.
