How do I remove the date from showing in the meta description? I noticed it just started showing up in Google and I’m not sure what setting to change in the SEO Framework to have it not display in Google. Thanks!

Which theme are you using currently?

Using Avada 5.0.6 and WP 4.7

    Hi @micky73,

The outputted dates aren’t actually in the description. If you look closer at the output in Google you’ll see the dates being slightly grey. If you look at the source of that, you’ll see that it’s a given time. Specifically parsed for this.

Luke is right, it could be your theme outputting these dates through rich data beneath or above the page’s content.

But The SEO Framework also gives Google a hand; within Social Meta Settings -> Post Dates you’ll find the provided options; there you can disable these dates:
The SEO Framework Social Meta Settings

Please note that it might take up to a month (depending on how often Google crawls your site) for these unwanted date annotations to disappear.

I hope this helps! Cheers ??

I’m actually using this plugin with the same theme (Avada) on a few sites and the date is only showing up on one of them, so I was wondering if it had something to do with the plugin. This particualr site doesn’t have any posts (only pages), so how do you suggest I proceed with removing the dates on the pages? The dates that are displaying in the descriptions are from October, if that helps. Thanks for helping me out, much appreciated!

    Hi @micky73,

I suspect you’d like to keep the particular site confidential, which is fine. But in order to answer your question, could you share the link of which with me regardless, privately and confidentially; on my contact page.

    Thanks!

    Hi @micky73,

    Thanks for sharing the URL.

I looked into it, and on this Google Search query (domain is omitted) it shows “2 nov 2016”:
    site:https://example.com/current-projects/

In the code, on that page, on line 210 (whilst being logged out), it shows:
    <span class="updated" style="display:none;">2016-11-02Txx:xx:xx+00:00</span>

This is indeed outputted by Avada; I have a very old copy from a customer (3.7.4), and there’s an option to disable this:
    disable_date_rich_snippet_pages.

The option, in 3.7.4, was named: “Disable Rich Snippets Sitewide”.

It also outputs Rich Titles and Rich Author Vcard links. Both of which are irrelevant to your website.

I hope this gives you some direction! If it doesn’t, you should forward this to the theme author; they’ll know where to look ??

Have a wonderful weekend! (You too Luke!)
