Remove "date" from Multisite archives permalinks?

    I’m using subdirectories in my Multisite installation. I only just noticed that the word “”date” is actually in the archives’ permalinks.

    – domain.com/blogname/date/2011/06/18/

    Is think it’s MultiSite-specific (I haven’t noticed it before today) and I’m assuming it’s of importance. Can it be edited or removed?

    ***Update***

    It’s not MultiSite specific. It’s the default behaviour for both Multisite and single installations using the default permalink settings.
