    Personally I’m not the biggest fan of the idea but I understand why others would want to. That said, the code in the gist you linked above is more often than not the code I link to when asked about the topic, so if I had any recommended method, it’d end up being that one.

    Not sure I want to go this route yet either, but the website I’m about to rebuild is currently a disaster and I’m weighing the options of changing URL structure or not.

    The gist code goes in our functions.php file, yes?

    That’s one place it can go, it can also go into a quick custom plugin if you don’t want it to be dependent on your active theme.
