• I’m a complete newbie to websites, WordPress and the rest. I’m using the Twenty Eleven theme on Dreamhost.
My site is not a blog site at all. One of its main features is pages with photo galleries. At the foot of every single photograph in a gallery the words “Comments are closed” appears, totally without relevance. How do I get rid of these words?
In another thread the way to do this with pages finally emerged after a lot of exchanges. It turned out that the problem lay with the options activated or not activated by default in WordPress Twenty Ten. Might it be a thought for WordPress, with its own showcase themes like Twenty Eleven, to offer installs with two sets of default options activated? One for blogs and one for those of us using the software for non-blog sites?

OK, in the absence of any response here I finally achieved my goal by removing the words “Comments are closed” but leaving the surrounding quotes in the comments.php file. I’d prefer to make this change in my child theme, which I’ve created and activated activated within DreamHost with the line @import url(‘../twentyeleven/style.css’);.

Editing styles.css within wordpress now refers to my child theme as a parent (!). To make amendments within the child stles.css file should I add alterations after the @import line or before? Or do I create a new comments.php file within the child theme?

Hi Frank. I see no one has answered your questions. I have same prob.
Have tried deleting “Comments are closed” from the parent comments.php file and it certainly gets rid of it. Like you I would rather make amendments within the child stles.css file. Did you ever find out how to do this?
    Thanks for your time.
