    Hello,

I’ve downloaded the template: ‘thematic’ which I want to adjust. I want to make a website for myself, not a blog, so comments and all that stuff won’t be needed. How do I remove the “place comment block’ on all my pages?

    Thanks,

    Mark.

  • Thematic is a framework rather than a simple theme. The difference between themes and frameworks varies according to who you ask but, essentially, a framework is a theme on steroids that you use as a base to build other themes on. As such, frameworks work slightly differently and have a lot of their own custom functions that you can use. It’s still all PHP but a lot of the complex work has already been done for you – leaving you with framework specific “modules” that you can use like Lego bricks (within reason) to build your theme.

So, now that you are completely confused, I’d suggest reviewing https://themeshaper.com/thematic/guide/ and perhaps posting on https://themeshaper.com/forums/ with Thematic-related questions. ??

    Hi,

Thematic’s documentation and support forums have moved to:

    https://thematictheme.com/forums and https://docs.thematictheme.com

The themeshaper forums and guide are still a good reference for Thematic in general but may be out of date with the current version of the theme.

    Thanks I’ll read into that.

That guide is really short, but what im wondering is, is is beter/smarter to use a framework theme, or just a normal theme like Twenty Twelve to create my own very custum websites?

I’d say that’s purely personal preference. I did try Thematic for a while but found it limiting and ended up doing a lot of work to rewrite some of its functions. But someone else might find it perfect for their needs.
