Remove background from Custom Menu (sidebar widget)

Thank you for the quick reply Emil! However, I’m still getting the brown background and CSS rules inherited from the main nav menu. I made a screenshot:

I already tried the code you suggested but I was getting the same result. I even added .menu-hiking_trail_menu-container, but nothing:

.menu-hiking_trail_menu-container a {
    border: none;
    text-shadow: none;
}

.menu-hiking_trail_menu-container .current_page_item a:hover {
     background: none;

}

I would say that you’re using an older version of Responsive Theme, we eliminated .menu class for custom menus in all widget areas, you can see an example here: https://themeid.com/demo/responsive/parent-page/
