  • Hi there,

If you’re looking to disable AMP on your site all that is required is to deactivate or uninstall the plugin. Any visitors to your former AMP URLs will be redirected to the canonical (non AMP) version. In addition once your site is next crawled by search engines all AMP URLs will be de-indexed, as they’ll no longer exist.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. I’m also curious to know of any reasons for no longer using AMP. Maybe there is something we can assist with if you’re using an incompatible theme or had trouble with ads or something else?

    Hi James
I have thought of just deactivating the plugin, but that will risk the SEO and actual ranking.

I decided to remove AMP as when without AMP i had better Bounce rate and better time on site.
Even Kinsta has come to the conclusion that performance without AMP is better.

My main concern about removing amp is the SEO health

    Thanks James

No problem at all, hope the above was useful. Rather than deactivating or uninstalling the plugin you may wish to do some comparisons on your site between your AMP and non AMP URLs. When it comes to site performance I would expect your AMP URLs perform better although we’d have to check your site.

When it comes to bounce rate the AMP plugin uses your actives themes styling and formatting in both transitional and standard modes, factors that can impact bounce rate. If you are not using an AMP compatible theme or if using the legacy reader mode theme without internal links or a suitable navigation toggle this can also impact bounce rate.

If you do decide to use the AMP plugin going forward be sure to reach out if you have any questions. Best of luck with your site.
