    Hello,

We have posts which are tagged as “thin”. These posts have “noindex tag” problem is that they are still shown in sitemap and causing search console error.

What function should i use if i want all posts under tag “thin” to be removed from sitemap or all noindexed posts automatically removed from sitemap? I cant do it one by one manually this is big website.

I have found this article about it but i am not able to make it work. I am not programmer. Which snippet is suitable for my case?

Thank you very much for help,

    Hello Wriper

Thanks for reaching out regarding your content.

Do you mean that Google Search Console reports the posts as having ‘thin content’? You also mentioned that the posts are already set to noindex. If this is the case, they should not be in the sitemap anymore. Will you be willing to share the URL of the site?

We are marking thin content with tag (tag name is “thin) which triggers “noindex”
But unfortunetly these posts stay in the sitemap even if they are “noindexed”
I am looking for solution which will remove all posts with “noindex” or with our specific tag.
For example this post: https://zaujimavysvet.webnoviny.sk/uzasny-konferencny-stolik-inspirovany-filmom-inception/ . Tagged with our specific tag (thin) so it is set to “noindex”

But unforunetly this url is still in sitemap here: https://zaujimavysvet.webnoviny.sk/post-sitemap11.xml

We need such urls removed in bulk, as there are hundreds of these posts we cant set each post manually

    Thank you very much

Thanks for sharing that example and I can confirm it has a noindex tag but still appears in the post sitemap. This should not happen, by design.

I suspect the issue is with the sitemap not updating. I’ll recommend checking your caching settings to ensure that the sitemap is being excluded from the cache. If the sitemap is being cached by a plugin we have directions on how to add an exclusion for the sitemap files to your cache plugin at https://yoast.com/help/exclude-sitemaps-from-cache/

If you are still experiencing an issue with the sitemap not updating after checking your caching settings, you can also force a cache reset by temporarily disabling the sitemap feature, and then re-enabling it. To do so please perform the following steps:

?? In WordPress go to SEO>General>Features
?? For ‘XML Sitemaps’ toggle the switch to ‘Disabled’
    ?? Click ‘Save Changes’
?? Toggle the switch back to ‘Enabled’
    ?? Click ‘Save Changes’

We also have a guide on how to enable/disable XML Sitemaps at https://yoast.com/help/xml-sitemaps-in-the-wordpress-seo-plugin/

Do let us know how it goes.

    Hello,

I dont think that cache is the problem. Are you sure that posts with “noindex” tag are automatically removed? I have cleared cache multiple times also enabled / disabled sitemap but urls are still there.

I think that some of the snippets i linked earlier could work but i need to help how to remove all urls with specific tag from sitemap. (e.g all posts with tag “thin” will be removed)

    Thank you

Any chance to make it work? I am willing to pay for premium or else we will have to change to other premium version of plugin which deindex and remove posts from sitemap in bulk.
