As far as I can see, the textarea in settings for dbem_event_list_item_format_header, though blank is putting in <p></p> tags right before and after the events list.

I’d rather not edit core files for the plugin but I could. Or if there is a hook for this I’d be pumped.

It would make sense that if the before and after textareas have nothing in them then they shouldn’t be placing any code into rendered wp pages.

This is under events manager -> settings -> events format -> Default event list format header and Default event list format footer
