I’m using the free version of WordFence. I previously had the premium version, with which I set up 2FA (only available with the premium version). I now want to remove the 2FA, but can’t because I’m using the free version. How do I remove the 2FA?

Hi @pvh5, thanks for your question.

2FA is available with the free version of the plugin under the Login Security menu item in your admin area. There is then a white and blue “DEACTIVATE” button in the top panel above the recovery codes section if you wish to remove it.

If you’re locked out, log into your site’s file manager or FTP and rename the /wp-content/plugins/wordfence plugin folder to “wordfence_bak”. This should let you access and log into your site normally.

You can then rename the folder back to activate Wordfence again and set up 2FA with your new device from Wordfence > Login Security.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

I don’t have the login security tab in my version of WordFence. When I go to the All Options tab, 2FA is a premium only option.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi @pvh5,

“All Options” has a blue button that links to the Login Security page, there are a few references to Premium on that page but for features like Country Blocking, Manually Schedule Scans etc.

This might seem like a strange question but are you on version 7.11.1 of Wordfence? I’ve genuinely not heard of 2FA or Login Security in general being disabled behind in the Free version, but am open to the idea that something may have occurred when switching from Premium to Free.

If you have any screenshots that can be shared here using a service like Snipboard or Imgur, I’ll hopefully be able to see what’s happened.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
