I received the following pop up in WordPress:

Support for the Falcon and Basic cache will be removed. This site currently has the Falcon cache enabled, and it is scheduled to be removed in an upcoming release. Please investigate other caching options and then manually disable it below. It will be disabled automatically when support is removed. More information.

I had search thru the whole web and documentation, but there is no confirmation on whether falcon will be removed or not.

Can you please help advise if this is true?

As i would need to plan for the worst.

  • Like so many others woke up to alerts going crazy for all the websites that I’ve installed WordFence on.

A few questions for WordFence along the lines of the OP.

    1) Can you confirm this is the case for both Premium and Free users alike?
    2) Why are you going this way?
    3) What do you propose for a different caching plugin that is CDN (like CloudFlare) compatible, etc, etc.

    Many thanks,
very sad day. Would love to know why you are going this way.

I am using a free version, it is not because i wanted to have this removed. but wordfence had removed the option for free using causing us to have no choice but to use other cache engine

    G’day Ronaldsoo,

I totally agree. It definitely came out of the blue, so it would be causing a mad scramble from many people.

My questions were directed to WordFence not to yourself, but seeing that it was in line with your questions I thought it added to it.

However I do recommend that you change the subject from “Removal of WordFence” to “Removal of Falcon Cache” or something similar. Because in reality I would presume most people will keep WordFence but need an additional Caching plugin.

I use Wordfence on 90 websites, I can’t afford 1500$ of licences of the Pro version for basic caching.

Also, basic caching have nothing to do with Wordfence servers, so I don’t like this unexpected, removal policy.

I also wait for an answer.

As of Wordfence version 6.2.1, we are removing support for Falcon. This wasn’t a decision we made lightly. We discussed it internally for a while before we finally decided to remove it. We have released a statement about it on our blog:

    https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2016/10/removing-falcon-cache-wordfence-heres-need-know/

The bottom line is that we’re focusing our energies on security, which we are very good at. If you need a recommendation for a caching solution, there is a great post at this link comparing caching plugins:

Users that didn’t have Falcon enabled should no longer see “Performance Setup” in the wordfence menu on their sites. Users who came into the update with Falcon enabled should see it. Defining the constant WF_ENABLE_FALCON will cause it to be shown no matter if it was or was not enabled prior to the update.

We have no plans to release this part of the plugin to the community at large as a separate plugin, basic or premium.

As always, thanks for your support and for using Wordfence.
