• The interface is horrible most especially from a writer’s perspective. Concept, content, and flow have been removed from the equation and replaced with blocks that segregate everything from a true writing experience.

    With more than 50,000 downloads of the Disable Gutenberg plugin, and more than 1,000,000 downloads of the Classic Editor, and 10,000+ activations of the free “Classic Editor Addon” plugin that makes sure the new block editor cannot be accidentally activated says something, it says your fan-base is not happy.

    Remember when Coca-Cola released the New Coke (Coke II). The American public’s reaction to the change was negative, even hostile, and the “New Coke” was considered a major failure. New Coke was discontinued in July 2002. It remains influential as a cautionary tale against tampering with a well-established and successful brand. Let’s hope the boys and girls behind WordPress don’t wait that long to make things right.

  • I’m old enough to remember New Coke. The analogy is apt. This is a classic case of fixing something that was never broke.
