    Hi team,

For the moment, i am using the free classic version of Relevanssi. This year, i am trying to reduce my database size.

I only use “classic functions” that offers relevanssi to improve the ux of my readers if they want to find something.

In this way, can i replace relevanssi via Relevanssi light ?

Where is the gain ? database size ? numbers of entries in the database ??

Why not give it a go? That’s the best way to find out if Relevanssi Light works for you. If you’re not doing anything custom and you don’t mind only being able to search a limited subset of content, Relevanssi Light will provide a good experience.

It does require a much less database size: the index on your wp_posts table might become bigger, but the whole wp_relevanssi table, which is often 3-4 times the size of your wp_posts table won’t be necessary anymore. Relevanssi Light is also much faster than Relevanssi.

    Hey @msaari

Thanks for these items of answer. Are yout the same team than “classic relevanssi” plugin ?

Wahts is the best way to process ? uninstall the classic plugin firt , then activate the light one ?

The plugins do not interact, do as you wish, as long as both plugins are not active at the same time.

Hi Mikko, i wanted to testing it this morning, but i saw “not tested with your version of wordpress”…Thus, in only use plugins compatible with the latest version of wordpress…Will you give an update to it ?

Just give it a go, all I would do in an update would be to change the compatible WP version number, it should work just fine.

It works fine, it is much faster than classic relevanssi, but terms are not in bold caracters, i guess it’s a factor of speed.

I gained about 30mb in terms of space in my database ??

30 megabytes? You have a small database ?? on my bigger sites, the Relevanssi database eats up hundreds and hundreds of megabytes. 30 megabytes should not really make much difference in any way.

But yeah, you do lose the excerpts. Building the custom excerpts is actually one of the slower parts of the Relevanssi search process, that’s why it’s missing from Light (and to keep things simple, Relevanssi Light is just a small fraction of Relevanssi in terms of lines of code).

    Hey Mikko @msaari

I do prefer a quick search and a lighter database, i find the light version suitable to my site. What do you think in terms of UX?

The only worry i have is that it’s not written as compatible with the latest version of wordpress, but you told me you would release the update so that it would be ?

The UX with the Light is the same as WP default search: quite good.

And don’t worry about the compatibility: it is fine.

    Hey Mikko,

Ok thanks for these information. I guess that Relevanssi Light still improves classic search however ??

Yes, it’s better than the default WP search, it’s much faster (especially in large sites) and better at providing relevant results.

    So I keep it ??
