• I recently upgraded my theme, and the new version comes with a live search. I’ve noticed it only partially picks up on my Relevanssi settings, though. As far as I can tell, it does use the weights I defined in the admin panel, but not the specific category weights I defined via functions.php. So the results that come up in the live box are different from the ones that come up in the regular search results. There is a live-search.php file in my theme I can edit, but I don’t know what would cause it to miss the code in functions.php, and I’m pretty clueless at PHP so I have no idea where to start. Any clue?

For examples, look at https://www.disabilityinkidlit.com. You can search for “autism” and find different results (the first result in the proper search results page has a heavily weighted custom field which live search ignores) or “real boy” in which case the order of the interview + review that come up is swapped; I weigh the review category heavier. The fact that those results come up in the first place is proof that it does look at the actual settings though, as I weight titles very heavily and the results were wildly different before that.

It’s not possible for the live search to use Relevanssi and not use the weights set in your functions.php.

Try disabling Relevanssi for a while – do the live search results change?
