I had to deactivate Relevanssi because it was breaking our Image Hotspot plugins. The image maps would display all the hotspot content as on and cause the page to display with the pins pushed into our navigation banner.

Any idea of what could cause this problem?

What is Image Hotspots and what does it do? I’ve never heard of it before. Does it do search queries as part of what it does?

The Image Hotspots work as a popup over an image to display content. It allows us to display content for a visual piece of our software product so that users can review its capabilities.

The Relevanssi engine was working with it, but suddenly, all of our Image Hotspots started displaying the hidden content as visible content, but distributed across the page. Plus the pins are supposed to be tied to specific places on the image, but they were rendering in our navigation banner.

There are at least three image hotspot plugins in the WP.org repo. Which one are you using?

Are you using in-document highlighting in Relevanssi? Disable that. The highlighting function breaks the HTML code the image map hotspot plugins store inside data attributes. Currently, there’s no way to fix that, so the only solution is to disable the in-document highlighting in Relevanssi.

I figured out where Relevanssi was working incorrectly. This problem will be fixed in the next version of Relevanssi, and you will be able to use in-document highlighting with these plugins once it’s out.

Okay. Thanks for looking into this issue. We will go ahead with that workaround, as Relevanssi was returning better search results than the default WordPress search.

The version 4.18.3, out now, should fix this issue.
