• We got ahead of ourselves and submitted our feed to iTunes before being fully prepared for our launch and hopeful inclusion to New and Noteworthy.

We are considering removing our podcast from iTunes and then resubmitting when we are fully prepared for launch.

I’ve read there may be implications to doing this ie: make sure the old podcast feed is completely removed from itunes before re-submitting, and also to make sure that we give our podcast a different name and if possible a different feed URL, otherwise its possible to fall over a bug which will tell you it’s already been submitted.

Is there a way in PowerPress to change our main feed url from the default? I see it may be possible to do this by implementing Category Podcasting which will give us a new url to submit. Is there another way?

    Many thanks,

    Heide

If your goal is simply to relaunch for iTunes, just log into Podcasts Connect with the account managing the current listing and remove the listing. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to resubmit the same feed URL again once you’re ready. This is the easiest way to handle this. And even if you picked up any subscribers from the old listing, they’ll still carry over, as the RSS feed URL will stay the same. All you’ll lose by removing the current listing is the ratings/reviews connected to that listing.

Great thanks for your response and advice Shawn, thats how I thought it works but had some concerns after researching online and reading that resubmission might require a new URL and Name, we’ll have a back up plan if thats the case. I’ll let you know if it is for your own knowledge and reference.

Sorry to correct Shawn, but ‘removing’ may not be the best term to use here. In podcastsconnect.apple.com your 2 options are to “hide” and “delete”. Deleting your podcast is NOT a good idea. iTunes maintains the unique feed URL long after you’ve submitted the podcast, so if you delete the listing then come back months or years later with the same feed URL, iTunes will reject it with an error that “the podcast has already been submitted”. The “hide” option is technically what you want and you can unhide the podcast once you are ready to launch.

    Hi Angelo,

Thanks for the update and correction, that’s a concern, we deleted our iTunes feed. I’ll try re-submitting using our main feed address, we are also changing our default iTunes store. If we get the “already exists” error then I can use category podcasting to give us a new unique address. That strategy might suit us better anyway as we may want to have multiple podcasting feeds in the future. Will let you know what happens, thanks for your support and attention, I think you guys have been super helpful.

Maybe I should have posed that as a question – I can use category podcasting to give us a new unique address … from what I understand that should be accepted as a new feed?

The category feed will be unique so yes it will allow you to overcome this problem.

iTunes used to also match the program title with previously deleted shows, but I do not believe they do that anymore.

Check out the strict category podcasting option, it will allow you to use the subscribe tools without problems as well as prevent you from accidentally putting the same episode in 2 or more categories.

Thanks Angelo, will be using the strict category podcasting for our needs.

Hi there, as an update we have relaunched successfully into another iTunes store using the category RSS feed and a different name. The submission and approval process was seamless.
