Is it possible for a plugin author to update “Tested up to” tag from the older version to a newer version of WordPress just to show that the plugin is compatible with the latest version of WordPress without actually testing it?

If it is, then as a plugin user how can we identify if it is actually tested or not with the latest version of WordPress?

Can we also report this case directly to WordPress? Where?

  • If you click View Details of the plugins you will see lot of information of the plugin: –

    Plugin Version
    Last Updated
    Requires WordPress Version
    Compatible Upto
    Requires PHP Version
    Active Installation

Compatible upto and Requires WordPress Version can be good started to check whether the plugin would work for your website.

technically plugin authors can do so,
Its just updating readme and bumping version.

But its weird way, they should test their own plugins before actually doing so.

If you have plugin issues with some specific plugin – first raise a support topic on related plugin forum.
