Related Posts no longer working

    Hello, I’ve had Jetpack related posts working for years and a couple months ago it just stopped showing results. I’ve tried clearing my cache plugins, disabling other plugins, re-syncing jetpack and various other settings, but no luck. Related posts is integrated via a shortcode at the very bottom of my posts page (it’s getting tagged as display:none even though there are/were always matches). Any ideas?

    Hi there

    I can see that Jetpack does have related posts for the post you mentioned, so there must be something else preventing them from being displayed.

    Did you install/update any plugins or themes around the time this started happening?

    If you’re not sure, I’d suggest you try the following:

    – Temporarily deactivate all the site’s plugins except for Jetpack and clear your browser’s cache.
    – Then check that post again. If it shows related posts, then we’ll know that another plugin is conflicting here. You can re-enable your plugins one by one, checking the post in between, until you find the one causing the conflict. You can leave it disabled or reach out to the plugin developer for a fix.

    If disabling plugins doesn’t help, it may be the theme.

    – Temporarily switch your theme to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twenty. Then check that post again. If it shows related posts, then you know it’s a problem with the theme, and you can reach out to the theme developer for a fix.

    Hi Dan, Thanks for the reply and tips. Looks like it’s the theme. I customized it myself. Related posts on my site broke about 3-6 months ago. Can you recommend any Jetpack functions or similar that changed around that time that I may need to update on my end…or a good way to troubleshoot?

    There are many possible functions that may have been changed between 3 – 6 months ago, so it’s hard to give specific advice.

    You can search the changelog for any updates pertaining to Related Posts.

    You can then search for related pull requests to explore the code that was changed and see if you can find the source of the issue.
