Related Posts in Custom Post Types

I have been searching around for how you can add related posts to a custom post type. So far, I haven’t been able to find anything. I noticed that the author for the Yet Another Related Posts Plugin mentioned wanting to work that into his plugin but otherwise, it seems to be a quiet subject (either that or I just need more Google training).

Are custom post types just not meant to handle related posts? Is there anything out there already offering this functionality that I’m missing?
