Here is a question: Can you upload a saved backup copy to cpanel, then after uploading database, update everything else? For instance; my domain was done in 3.3.2. The new one is 3.4. It seems to make sense to upload the backed-up copy first, then update everything. Am I making sense?

Reason I ask; I uploaded a fresh copy into a fresh installation, then uploaded backup copy of mysql database etc. There is a lot of information missing such as tags and categories etc. It’s driving me crazy.

Yes. You cannot use a 3.3.2 database in a 3.4 install. Start with installing 3.3.2, restore the database, then upgrade to 3.4.

Now my problem is that I’ve deleted the old database, then recreated a new one, downloaded the mysql backup and tried to run install but now I get Can’t connect to database error.

    Oh boy.

I might add that no matter how I drop the tables in phpmyadmin, I always get database already exists. Then I once again drop tables and try but to no avail.

BTW, I checked with my host and their servers are fine. No maintenance or anything.

These aren’t WordPress issues, per se. They’re something to do with your database set up or access details.
