I have my Network Admin settings to allow user registrations but these are not showing in in the General Settings for any of my three blogs. This recently disappeared, probably in the last week since that’s when I heard from users about the issue.

    What I’ve done so far:

    –Turned off all plugins (no help);
–Dialed back BuddyPress to 1.2.7 (no help so I went back to 1.2.8)
–Tried the default BuddyPress theme (no help)

What’s weird is that the registration WAS set in the Network Admin and it WAS working. But when I went to check it was set to no registrations. Great, I thought, that’s the problem. So I turned it on. Unfortunately that didn’t joggle whatever it is that’s broken because there’s still no option in our blogs’ General Settings. There IS no membership checkbox at all.

My gut said it had to be a BuddyPress issue but like I said, turning BuddyPress off doesn’t help and I’m not seeing similar problems in their forums.

Any idea what I should try next?

    Thanks!
    Dawn

Registration is site wide, not per site. So no, you don’t get signups on each blog anymore.

People sign up on BuddyPress, if you’re using that, at the signup page (mine is moved from /resgister to /joinup for example). Otherwise I think it’s wp-singup.php.

Are you asking ‘How do I register new users?’ or ‘How do I add registered users to individual sites?’

I’m saying that on the main blog (https://www.supportforspecialneeds.com) registration is no longer enabled and there is no way to enable it because there is nothing in the General settings for membership although this is activated in the Network Admin.

So over in Network Admin, I’ve clicked “User accounts may be registered.” But when I go to my SforSN dashboard and go to General Settings, there is no Membership checkbox. And my registration button is gone on the front page and you can no longer access https://www.supportforspecialneeds.com/register

The last registration we had on the site was on March 11th but I’m not sure what I’ve upgraded since then (I update whenever there’s an update so I just can’t remember). So sometime between then and this Friday when a user alerted me that she couldn’t get to the registration page something went wrong. I’m kicking myself for not noticing sooner so I could undo whatever I did in that week.

Nevermind, the registration page just appeared again. There’s still no checkbox in my general settings but I looked at the button is back and so is the registration page. I don’t know why. If I figure out which plugin is the culprit I’ll be sure to post to that plugin’s page just to give people a heads up.

there is nothing in the General settings for membership

THAT is correct and as it should be. Since registration is SITE wide, it’s in teh NETWORK admin ?? Don’t stress on that weirdness, it just is.

So over in Network Admin, I’ve clicked “User accounts may be registered.” But when I go to my SforSN dashboard and go to General Settings, there is no Membership checkbox.

Again, this is as expected. There WILL NOT be a per-Blog registration setup. Which is why I asked where you were trying to sign folks up ??

Are you using any plugins for caching?

You forgot to mention the real kicker, Dawn: you’re using Buddypress! Yes, it makes a difference. ??

But I did mention it! Or at least I did in a round about way ‘cuz I said I tried dialing back on my BuddyPress install.

I still have no idea why it left or why it came back though. Very confusing. I haven’t turned all the plugins back on yet though — I got interrupted halfway through and am about to go back to it.

BuddyPress is the kicker cause it moves the registration page even MORE. ??

Honestly, caching is most likely the cause. Next up would be plugin activation order. Last would be the perverse kobolds that live in all computers.
