• Hello,

It’s the second website that I create with WordPress, and each time I allow the user to sign-up, the email that is sent don’t allow the user to change it’s password.

Let me explain with an example:
    1. I go to the “/wp-login” page.
    2. I click on the “sign-up”/”register” link (I don’t know the exact name in english but in french it’s “Inscription”)
    3. I complete the form and validate it.
    4. It’s say that the account is pending.
    5. I go to my webmail, and the content of the mail is the folloging :

“Identifiant: MY_IDENTIFIANT Pour configurer votre mot de passe, rendez-vous à l’adresse suivante: https://MY_WEBSITE_URL/wp-login.php”

But the link to configure my password is hidden and I have to go see the source of the email to access this link. I don’t think that it’s very userfriendly for the users and that it’s not the behavior wanted.

Is it possible to correct this “little” bug in the following update of WordPress to have the link visible in the mail?

Ps: All my web site uses the latest version of WordPress (4.9.8) and the bug occur before installing any plugin and it’s also there after the installation of elementor & contact-form.

    Have a great day.
    Ricci D.

  • Hey Ricci,

Can you tell me what e-mail client are you using, please? I’m asking this because I had the same problem before but this was happening due to the software I was using. Have you tried to use Gmail (if your e-mail address is from gmail, of course)?

    Hello Constantin,

I have tried with the a Gmail and outlook.com address with the website and for both of them I also use a desktop client “MailSpring” but the result is the same, the link in the mail is just a link to the “/wp-login.php” page. The link to configure the password isn’t visible in the mail directly, I have to go in the source on the mail to see it.
I also tried with a temporary email (temp-mail.org) and the result is always the same.

But even if it’s work on some webmail or desktop client, I think that the link could be shown as a text that the use can copy/paste in its browser so it will work for every client that the user could be using.

    Hi,

Could you try to do the change presented here, please?

This seems to be a common “problem” and many users have reported this change as being the solution.

Thank you, It resolve my problem, but if I do an update of WordPress, I will have to fix it for every client…
I thing that fixing it in a WordPress update can be a better solution than fixing it locally.

    Hi,

I’m glad to hear that this change did the trick ??

However, as the article author says, this might happen because your mail server blocks “<” & “>” which appears in that link. Server admins may block this for security purpose which helps to reduce cross-site scripting. If you want, you can try to contact your hosting provider and ask him some more about this. He’ll definitely be able to give you some more details about this.
