Thank you for reaching out to us for assistance. The short answer to whether you must log in through Facebook is No. In detail, to display any content in the Smash Balloon Social Photo Feed (Instagram Feed) you do require to have an account connected. This can either be done by logging in through your personal Instagram account directly, a ‘Personal’ connection. This will take you to Instagram to log in.
There are some features, most in the Pro version of our plugin, that require the Facebook API and as such, require that the Instagram account is a Business Profile connected to a Facebook page. The Business connection as such will take you to Facebook to log in.
Finally, one thing to keep in mind is that Instagram is owned by Facebook, and as such, should one wish to not have any type of connection to Facebook at all and not log in to Instagram, our plugin will not work.
