Registration as Student vs Subscriber

How to differentiate between Subscriber and Student user types?I didn’t have Namaste enabled for Subscribers.
Once a newbie registers, I have no way to know they registered for courses or general subscription to blog.
Subscriber can see the ENROLL button on courses even if not a Student user type.
Subscriber can click the Enroll button on my course promo page and then that page reloads and button disappears. Subscriber can then see the first lesson (which would be fine if Subscribers were enabled, but they’re not), yet they still cannot see Courses in their logged in Dashboard. Admin sees the Subscriber user-type as enrolled.
I understand that a Subscriber cannot see the courses in the logged in Dashboard – as it should be – but why can they Enroll?
