Hi, Thanks for your previous reply to me. My site is now running in the right domain name but the register link doesn’t work. I’ve ticked the ‘anyone can register’ box in general settings. When I click on ‘register’ I get a 404 error. And I’ve looked through the whole site and there is no ‘register.php’ anywhere. I was logged out of my site when I tested it. Again, thanks for your time.
    Kind regards, Greg.

  • There is no file called register.php rather it is an extension of the wp-login.php page. The function to call/display the register link on your page is named wp_register(). If you are getting a 404 Error as opposed to a PHP error, I would confirm that /wp-login.php exists firstly!

Also, are you using a certain theme or a widget to allow users to register?

Hi Matt, thanks for you’re reply. Yes there is a wp-login.php. I can log into the site ok. The lost password link works fine but the register link doesn’t although it did 3 weeks ago. The theme is a basic one I wrote with artisteer and it allows users to register.
    Kind regards, Greg.

Please contact artisteer for support. We do not support non-WPORG themes here.

Settings – General – Membership – Anyone can register is checked?
Can you access /wp-login.php?action=register on your site?

Well, a URL to your site would be nice.

Did you try to use the default Meta widget in your sidebar? Try if it’ll work. Just drag&drop it to your sidebar (Appearance-widgets)

Thanks, the meta register works. I just have to figure out how to make it work in the login menu

How exactly did you add the login form in your sidebar? Is it a widget or you added the code yourself?

Anyway, there are interresting plugins in the WP plugin directory you might consider using: Sidebar login, Tabbed login, WP login box

I’ve reinstalled wp in my root directory and am using sidebar login and it now seems to be working and stable. But now there is no comment window and I’ve been through all the settings to turn on commenting without success. Any ideas?

Greg, is “allow comments” in the Discussion tab of Edit Page ticked? If you don’t see the Discussion tab, click Screen Options on any Edit Page and tick Discussion.
Did you follow ALL these steps for enabling comments?
