• My register link in the sidebar is pointing to wp-login.php rather than wp-register.php. Anyone know where I can edit these links?

  • To edit the wp-login.php and wp-register.php pages, go to the main ROOT directory where you installed your blog.

This is assuming your blog is located at https://www.yourdomain.oom and not https://www.yourdomain.com/folder

Your Root directory is the same as your public_html folder (the same folder where your index.php file is located). NOT the same folder where your index.php THEME file is located.

Edit: in case you were asking where to edit the Sidebar… and not the login and register pages directly, then, depending on your theme, you should be able to edit the link via sidebar.php or whichever “location” you have your Register link located. For example, if it’s in the Footer, then you’d edit footer.php (that’s where mine is).

cstina the first part of your post is wrong. You should never edit wp core files nor should you have to. But yes the sidebar.php file will have the links in it. Unless using widgets then that’s different and you might have to just use a text widget with the direct links to the login and register pages. Also if you have registration closed then it will redirect you to the login page but with an error about registration being closed. If that’s the case then check your options in your dashboard to enable it.

    Hi Jeremy,

    I see.

I have edited wp-login and thus far (over a year), it has worked great. They were minor changes and I didn’t do any .php modding. Maybe it will come back to haunt me one day, but so far, so good.
