  • Does it deserve a 1-star review even though you didn’t use the plugin?

You can’t take credit for what others have made. The database should be open source. I dont want to register all over the net and give away my information like emailadress, etc. just for some simple files to download. Many will not install the plugin just because of this.

Maxmind requires registration now, previously their databases were available freely, but now they changed it.

You cannot blame plugin author(s) that you need to register for using MaxMind database or API.
You cant demand from them to

    database should be open source

Its 3rd party database or API, and there is no better viable choice with same precision.

(If plugin is using other databases for GeoIP – correct me pls)

I dont demand anything. I only point out that it should be easier to get the needed file(s), that’s all. I could just sit back and dont even comment on this, like I will do in the future to avoid these “kickbacks”. Have a nice evening.

Unfortunately, you cant get precise GeoIP databases for free.
    Here
    https://lite.ip2location.com/database/ip-country
    or
    https://dev.maxmind.com/geoip/geoip2/geolite2/
here you have to register for download access.

Or use slightly outdated databases that were available before.

Yes, you have a point. Especially because plugin vendor is same as DB vendor,
so its not 3rd party. I thought they are using MaxMind, but they dont. Sorry for that mistake.
