    Good day.

I have the following case study. I have compressed all the images on my store with the Smush plugin. Then I found your plugin and saw the good practices for compressing the images in WEBP format.
My question is, is there a way to recompress the images in the background so that this WEBP format can be generated?
At the moment, in the Images tab, I see only 6 photos that are not compressed by the Smush plugin, and accordingly, I can perform this operation only on them at the moment.
I saw that I can do this manually photo by photo but it is not a solution for me as I have close to 100,000 images and I need an adequate solution.
I also want to ask if I have a 200KB photo, which if I only compress it becomes, for example, 100KB. But if I want to add the possibility to have WEBP format as well. Does this mean that on the server I will have 2 photos (compressed original) and (WEBP file) of the same photo? Because it would take up a lot of server space?

Thanks and have a nice day.

@vladimirvuch Yes, server will have 2 photos of the same photo. Because not all browsers are supporting WebP format and we need original for fallback.

We are working on on the fly WebP conversion feature which can convert JPG/PNG images whenever they are requested to WebP format (if not already present)

Okay. Thank you for the information.
Could you please guide me on the progress of this feature and when I can expect it. Within month two?

@vladimirvuch We don’t have a fixed time frame for this feature. But I can say, you can expect it in the first week of June
