    Hi,

I have created a custom post type on my test server and created data. Now everything is ready to migrate to the live site.

I have used the WordPress functionality to export the data of that custom post type (Tools -> Export). However I have noticed that in the exported XML the post IDs are included. Those Ids will not be valid on the live server because their databases are not synchronised.

Will WordPress handle this and create new IDs? Or do I have to remove them manually form the XML?

    Thanks

Hiya SGURYGF – please don’t bump your topics. It actually works against you because by bumping, your topic falls off of the “No Replies” list most experts here use to find those still needing help. Additionally, it doesn’t move your topic from where it was originally in the regular forum list as you probably expected. Finally, it’s against our guidelines here.

I’ve been watching your topic anyway, hoping someone with more knowledge than me would reply. I don’t have a good answer myself, I don’t have much experience with the import tool. If someone doesn’t jump in with a better answer, I’d suggest setting up a test import of only a few posts with conflicting IDs corresponding to expendable posts on the target DB. Do a trial import and see what happens. Let us know how it goes.
