Referrer redirect error?

My client has your pro version of this plugin and I have installed it and am trying to get it working for just a single page on which we need to update the user with a Gravity form. The first step is to make sure they are registered or logged in, and that’s where your plugin is supposed to help.
I have set up a test page with the register and login shortcodes, and I have left the plugin redirect options blank, because in another thread you said that this would cause the login to redirect to the referrer–just the behavior I am after. Unfortunately, what it’s doing is redirecting to the referrer with a (JSON?) error, which generates a 404:

Could this be because the site is under SSL? Or is it maybe something else? Do you know a way to get it to work right so that we just register/log them in and refer back to the page they were on? (PS, I have set the above page to private for now so that people don’t reach it in error, but let me know if you need to look at it.)
