I installed CRSB last week because our company website’s analytics were being skewed by .xyz domains.

Today, on my Google Real-Time monitoring, I watched two different .xyz domains connect. If I can see them reporting on my Real-Time content monitoring, then that means Google Analytics will be counting them as well.

How long does it take for the referral website spam to be blocked?

    Hello,

Every domain in the list should be blocked immediately after being added. If you are using a CDN, varnish, or other type caching, it’s still possible for spammers to load cached content from their nearest proxy. The same can be true for RUM as both are dependent on client-side javascript execution. However, I take these reports very seriously and will investigate.

Can you please let me know the specific domain(s) you’re seeing in analytics as well as the version number of the plugin you currently have installed.

I will test against my own sites with the information you provide. If you’re willing to provide your own domain I will test against yours as well. Testing is a harmless process where I spoof a referrer and test to ensure that requests are properly blocked.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your prompt reply!

We are currently running plug-in version 1.0.92, and while I do understand the bit about cache-ing, I have tried to eliminate this on our end by purging and re-creating all our caches (if that would make a difference).

My domain is swartzelectric.biz, and the referral domains my Google Analytics tracked yesterday were traffic2cash.xyz and share-buttons.xyz.

I know I have tried to tell Google to ignore these referrers and it has trouble processing the .xyz domain… Do you think that is possibly part of the problem?

Please let me know what you find out, and thank you again!

    Hello,

I’ve tested the domains traffic2cash.xyz and share-buttons.xyz against both your domain and my own.

I was seeing that all tests were properly blocked on both sites. I will investigate further and provide an update today or over the weekend.

    Thanks!

Thank you for checking. I am not sure what else is going on; since this is referral spam its only a minor annoyance – however the long term is it does skew our performance metrics and can be truly problematic.

Thank you again; while this is not resolved, I do trust you will eventually root things out and I am content. ??
