I added some extra to my last question but have found some more so thought id best start a new question.

After playing around with the referral code I found a few things and was wondering if there was a resolution to them or anything planned to resolve in future releases

1)the referral code works for members who complete a purchase without registering, therefore they can essentially use the same code as often as they want and constantly benefit from a discount

    or

if i was to set the code to only work once, the registered customer could generate more codes and pass the codes to the same person, again benefiting multiple times. I was under the impression the customer would need to register with the code and once registered they could no longer benefit from introductory codes?

2)A user can use their own referral code. I simulated a dummy transaction, copied my code and pasted it in the coupon box and managed to give myself a 10% discount

As it stands, using this feature of the plugin, no one would ever need to pay full price for a product

    Hi Supplement Genie,
Using Gratisfaction you can setup both double-sided and single-sided referral programs.

Your questions pertain to the double-sided referral program which works by rewarding both the ‘referral’ and ‘invited friends’

    Please let me explain this:
So ‘Invited friends’ are rewarded by way of coupons that are shared by the ‘Referrals’- The goal being to increase sales by way of attractive discounts. I.e. you want more and more invited friends to purchase from your store, in return for discounts. If sales is the primary objective, then registration may be desirable but should not be mandatory (If we force registration as a condition for using the coupons, then sales may be negatively impacted as some shoppers do not want to create an acount. That said, in our experience, registratons increase if you have an attractive loyalty rewards program (So we recommend you should attractively reward people for 1. Creating an account (Activate ‘Welcome points’ in Gratisfaction) and, 2. For purchases) and also become referrals (Guest checkouts will neither earn loyalty reward points nor will they be enrolled into the referral program) . And, to achieve this goal, ‘Referrals’ are in turn rewarded/incentivized so that they are motivated to share the coupons to as many people as they can. Coupons are single use. For coupon attributes, we are dependent on WooCommerce features.

    Single-sided referral program:
If you do not want to give out coupons to ‘invited friends’, then you can setup a single-sided referral program.
Here only the referrer is rewarded. A referral is counted only when an invited friend signs up to your campaign using the unique link shared by the referrer (You can also add a sign up goal). Note that for such campaigns signup will be to our app (We are soon enhancing this feature)

The referrer shares a unique link of your campaign with their friends and family.
To set up a single-sided referral program, go to “Campaigns” –> ‘New Campaign’–> “3.Referrals”
To invite people to join your program, we provide you with many options including the Campaign URL, Facebook Tab URL, Destination URL, etc. Click on your Campaign and go to ‘Install’ tab to see all available options

Please send us an email to [email protected] if you’d like to know more.

    There are a few issues I have…

First being that every question I have asked, as soon as you post a reply, you mark as resolved even though the matter is not resolved…

secondly, should it not be up to the store owner whether registration is required to use the code? This in essence means that the customer can use the code every time they come to my website and get discount off of every purchase.

    – It is supposed to be an introductory offer – not a continuous offer.

Also the discount code, the person offering the referral can copy and paste their own code and get a discount from it so in essence no one would ever need to pay full price for products as they can constantly give themselves discounts.

the other option is to stop using that feature. but then it takes away from what makes the plugin unique.

In honesty. the plugin has great features can be a great tool but the implementation requires improvement. Shop owners working on such small margins like myself need exposure which this plugin can help with.
But what we cannot cope with is no one having to ever pay full price, as i would be operating at a loss

I was under the impression that the referral code offered an introductory one time discount on their first purchase upon registration. That is the way every other website I have known works who offer a similar scheme.

    Hi Supplement Genie,
We are dependent on /restricted by the features of WooCommerce

secondly, should it not be up to the store owner whether registration is required to use the code?

WooCommerce does not have a feature to restrict coupons that can only be used by registered customers, sorry.

This in essence means that the customer can use the code every time they come to my website and get discount off of every purchase.

No, that is not true. When we create automatic coupons, we use WooCommerce Coupon restriction–> ‘Usage Limits’–> ‘Usage limit per user’= 1. This field as defined by WooCommerce says

How many times this coupon can be used by an individual user. Uses billing email for guests, and user ID for logged in users.

So for non-registered users, the usage will be restricted to one per email address.

Also the discount code, the person offering the referral can copy and paste their own code and get a discount from it

WooCommerce does not have a feature to restrict coupons to exclude email addresses, sorry. That said, we don’t count this in the #referral count.

    Thank you for explaining.

based on the explanation, I appreciate that it is not your fault and I apologise for how I may have come across :-).

Im trying to figure out the best method to attract new customers and the reward scheme offers an excellent prospect.

the single sided referral may work better to begin with.

    Thanks again
