Redundant Meta Pixel Events: strange events fired by the pixel
-
If you see an increased number of events, or events popping out of the blue, it can be a META BUG.
Please watch this video for more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNB84nzc3s8
What to do:
Go to Meta Events Manager: https://business.facebook.com/events_manager2/
In the left menu, click on Data Sources. Select the pixel you need to debug, go to Settings.
Look for the Event Setup tool and make sure there are NO EVENTS configured there.
Look for the “Track events automatically without code” option and make sure it’s turned OFF.
If you have no events under the Event Setup tool and the “Track events automatically without code” is OFF, it means there is a bug on Meta’s side. You can easily confirm by changing the pixel ID inside PixelYourSite. The extra events will go away for the new ID.
Contact the Meta support and insist they raised the issue internally. Their first answer will be that they can’t check because the pixel is installed with a third party tool. Insist that they raise the problem.
Tell them that the The Meta Pixel automatically and wrongly fires events even when the Events Manager option to “Fire events without code” is turned OFF and with no events configured using the Event Setup tool. These events are NOT fired by the third party tool, but by the pixel itself.
