• Hello friends.
I have been trying to improve the page load times of my site and have done the obvious things like optimizing images and have added the site to Cloudflare. I am running W3total cache but still seeing page load times of around 2/3 seconds. As the internet seems to be all about speed can someone advise if this is acceptable or suggest improvements that could be made?
    Thanks in advance.

Try deactivating all of your plugins to explore whether any could be responsible. If none are, keep all plugins deactivated and switch to the Twenty Fifteen/ Fourteen theme to see whether it could an issue with your theme.

Thanks for your advice, I will do some experimenting and report back.

    Hi jim,

Whatever country you are in, at some point WP requires something like 256 Mb to run smoothly. It’s the most common bottleneck, people using WP with “cheap” servers.

Also, using cache plugins on cheap things actually degrade load times at 100% case use.

If not your case, please read the requirements for a WP install on codex. Actually, I advice a server with at least 256 MB dedicated RAM – and a decent CPU unit to follow. All below will lead to that kind of performance (around 2-3 seconds to load).

In the end, that also depends how theme is coded. Bad themes tries to load all things before browser tries to access, good themes do it the async way – loading as needed.

    Hi thanks for reply,
Server specs are: Digital Ocean Droplet 1GB Ram 30GB SSD Disk. Lemp Stack with php memory set at 128mb (in php.ini)
I am self taught so advice is appreciated, always learning! My first steps will be to try the plugin/theme tests to eliminate possible issues there.
    Thanks again.

    UPDATE!

Changed theme, now getting Page speed score of 97% and YSlow 91%
    Page load time 1.3secs

Thanks to all that gave advice!
