• Does anyone have any idea how to reduce the height of the header image? You can see how big my header looks at a test/staging site for my work in progress:

I’d like it to be maybe about half as tall.

If possible, I’d also like to add a section in the right half of the header, such as a spot for social media icons, or an ad box, etc.

Any help or guidance is much appreciated. Thank you.

I’m periodically trying out other things on my test site, and might have brief periods even with other themes there. Here’s a screenshot in case the Twenty Fourteen theme isn’t live on the site:

(The site is heavily modified from the base Twenty Fourteen, using the Fourteen Extended plugin, and the styles and color plugins. I’m trying to end up with a “clean” look with ample whitespace.)

Do not edit the Twenty Fourteen theme. It is the current default WordPress theme and having access to an original, unedited, copy of the theme is vital in many situations. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.

Sorry, I should have been more precise with my wording. My changes have all been to a child theme. I haven’t touched Twenty Fourteen itself.

Your header image has a lot of padding and a lot of whit background both top and bottom. Try reducing the padding in your custom CSS file and crop the height of the image by at least 30%.
