Hi, I tried to connect Redis with W3 total cache but for some reason it shows thei smessage:

“Object caching via Redis is currently disabled via filter.”

I have not even changed any of the default W3 settings.

So how can I disable the filter and enable Redis to work with W3 plugin now?

    Thank you ??

    Hello @melaniesinmek

Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to help!

The notification, “Object caching via Redis is currently disabled via filter.” means that you are already using Redis Object Caching and therefore is disabled in the W3 Total Cache to avoid conflict.

If you want to use Object Caching in the W3 Total Cache instead, you need to remove the other plugin.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the quick reply but that your response leaves me even more confused.

What do you mean Redis is already enabled? Yes I need to instal and activate the Redis plugin and then connect it to W3 or am I wrong?

Same like with Litespeed cache, I need to activate Redis and then connect it to Litespeed plugin.

W3 also shows Redis as options for several caching settings, so if I can only use W3 OR redis at any given time then why does Redis even show up as option only to show me the “Object Cache is disabled via filter” notification?

That is quite confusing. I thought I activate Redis plugin and the W3 plugin at same time, connect them so that W3 can then use Redis fucntionality.

    Hello @melaniesinmek

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry for the confusion.

The plugin called Redis Object Cache (check if this is installed) has the filter to disable the W3 Total Cache object Caching feature.

The reason for this is that Redis Object Cache is caching Objects exactly like Object Caching feature in the W3 Total Cache. Two plugins can be used at the same time.

Can you please check this and let me know if I was clear this time?

    Thanks!

Hi, sorry if I do not understand that much about the technical and functional aspects of the 2 plugins. I watched some Youtube videos and they install both W3 and Redis plugin – which is what I did.

Now my Redis seeting shows 3 things:

Status: Not enabled; Filesystem: Writeable; Redis: Unreachable

So, from a laymans perspective Redis is not even working right now (correct me if I am wrong). Yet, W3 lets me seelct Redis options in dropdowns but gives me the “Object Cache is disabled via filter” notification for the object cache setting.

Not sure what I am doing wrong in this setup, I installed and activated both plugins yet its not working as expected or let me put it his way easy to get it working. Maybe I should just delete Redis again and simply use W3 alone……

    Hello @melaniesinmek

    Thank you for your feedback.
The first thing you need to do is to confirm that Redis is available on your server. W3 Total Cache recognizes the PHP extension so make sure that the phpredis is installed.

This is also important to the other plugins. Installing Redis Object Cache means that this plugin is used to cache Objects with the Redis caching method if available on the server.

    Thanks!
