I’ve been getting “404 page not found” when trying to log in to Admin and members have reported that they are unable to log in either due to “too many redirects”.

I have replaced my htaccess file with my backup of the standard WordPress htaccess and was able to log in as Admin. On checking your plugin settings, “Basic Firewall Settings” were enabled and I think this may be where the problem may lie as when they were disabled (and the backup htaccess file uploaded), I was able to log in both as Admin, and a regular member.

This problem only seemed to occur after I updated to WordPress 3.7.1. I would like to enable the “Basic Firewall Settings” if possible, so is there a way around this?

Are you using a membership plugin?

In addition to @mra13’s question, was the white list feature activated at the time you were seeing this problem?

Thanks for the fast response, guys. In reply to your questions…..

mra13 – no, I’m not using a membership plugin, just the standard WP registration.

wpsolutions – yes, the Whitelist feature was enabled, and I had added my IP address to it.

The white list feature will usually do this when it blocks IP addresses which are not in the list.

Try disabling the white list feature to see if the redirect stops happening.

Oops – my bad! It was indeed the Whitelist feature. I had previously used another plugin which had a whitelist feature – with that one I added my IP address to prevent myself being locked out of the site, but of course your Whitelist feature (I now know) works the opposite way. Sorry guys, should have read the small print!
