    Hi,

a couple of questions please. I have yoast seo premium but I can’t pay it now. I want use free yoast, but I’ve used redirects.

    1) How can I use free yoast without losing current redirects? Is it saved in .htaccess file? If I delete yoast premium plugin, it will delete .htaccess modifications?

    2) If I uninstall yoast seo premium and I install free yoast, would I lose meta data in the posts?

Summary, I want pass premium to free yoast plugin wihout affecting to my site (I’ve only used redirects). Thanks beforehand.

@v1k1ng0 If you have purchased SEO Premium you would need to contact us directly at [email protected] for assistance as this forum is reserved for support of the free version of Yoast SEO.

However, we’ve addressed your concerns below:

    1) How can I use free yoast without losing current redirects? Is it saved in .htaccess file? If I delete yoast premium plugin, it will delete .htaccess modifications?

The plugin will only write to your .htaccess file if you have set the ‘Redirect Method’ to .htaccess. You can set the redirect method by going to SEO>Redirects>Settings and select ‘.htaccess’ for the Redirect Method setting.

    2) If I uninstall yoast seo premium and I install free yoast, would I lose meta data in the posts?

No. The data you create with either version of the plugin is stored separately from the plugin files in your WordPress database, so is accessible to both the free and premium versions of the plugin.

    Thanks for replying me.

    1) I have PHP checked. The other option is web server (in Spanish). What happen if I change it? Are the current redirections maintained or passed to my current .htaccess?
I it is of this way, I don’t need nothing more later? (another plugin for it working..). I can edit the file manually, yes?

    2) Ok, thanks

    Thank you very much.

The web server option means your site is not setup for an .htaccess file (usually means you have an NGINX server). This option writes a file that you can copy to a different location on your server and add a link to the new location in your server settings. Your web host can help you with the process since it requires editing your server setup. Once the file in outside of the Yoast setup, you can edit it using your server file editing program.

    I’m sorry but I don’t understand it…:-(
When you say “this option writes”, what option? .htaccess file or web server as I have because my hosting uses NGINX ??
I have very well positioned the website, I don’t want lose SEO (I have many redirects, if it fails, it would be a problem for me).
Could you explain step by step please? I have ftp access to my hosting and access to the cpanel.
    Thanks beforehand.

“This option” refers to the web server option you said is available for you.

    1. Switch to “Web Server” option
    2. Add/Modify/Remove a single redirect to force an update to the redirect file.
    3. Copy /wp-content/uploads/wpseo-redirects/.redirects to another folder/location on your server
    4. Update your Nginx config file to load the .redirects file from the new location

Your web host can help you with the final two steps.

Note: Once you copy the .redirects file to another location, you will no longer be able to use Admin > SEO > Redirects to add, modify, or remove redirects. Instead, you can manually edit the .redirects file in the new location to add, modify, or remove redirects.

I’ve understood now, thanks, but I’m sorry, my hosting support said me that they use LiteSpeed as web server. Do you know if it is possible in this case and the steps to follow?

    Thanks beforehand.

Sorry, I don’t know how to setup a LiteSpeed server to utilize the .redirects file.

    Litespeed said me:

If you want to redirect one or more URLs, it works like Apache redirect configuration in .htaccess.

    https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/rewrite/remapping.html

So I understand that I can’t keep them when I remove premium plugin, correct? I will have to do it of a manual way, isn’t it?

    Thanks beforehand.

@v1k1ng0 If Litespeed works similar to Apache and the redirects can be saved to a file like .htaccess, you could back up the redirects from there and after switching back to the free version of Yoast SEO then re-add them to the file.

My problem is that I can’t save them in a .htaccess file, I don’t have that option in yoast. Only php and web server.

Yoast SEO Premium redirects manager settings page will show different option based on the web server. If you are seeing Web Server in the Yoast SEO Premium redirects manager settings page, this means you’re currently running an Nginx based web server. So, all the redirects will be available in the Nginx configuration file (if you have the relevant option enabled). If you are unsure about the Nginx configuration file, we highly recommend you to reach out to your web hosting provider for further assistance on this.

On the other hand, since redirects manager is a feature of Yoast SEO Premium plugin, we also recommend you to send us an email directly at our [email protected] email so that we can answer any queries related to the Yoast SEO Premium plugin specific features.

Thanks for replying, but you should read before posts. I have litespeed and not nginx. Litespeed works as Apache with .htaccess,so how could I migrate current redirects (I have checked php option) to .htaccess? I have many redirects.
My yoast license expired,it was paid for another guys (owners of my site),but I’m independent now and of course, they are not paying it.

    Hi,

Yoast is unable to support adding redirects via .htaccess on LiteSpeed servers. We have a feature request with our developers to support this. In the meantime, we suggest signing up for our newsletter as that is where we will announce product changes and updates. You can sign-up for it here https://yoast.com/newsletter/.
