Hi, and firstly thanks for your useful plugin.

We have just migrated from blogger (we have to migrate somo post more and we′re working on the theme before). The domain is the same that the one we have used (still using) in blogger (just a new hoster with WP), the urls are the same cause I have configure permalinks with the blogger format.

Now I have the wp site url without url (blogger still working and Wp not active yet) and I have noticed that when I open a url in the preview and I add www. its working (it sends me to the exact post in blogger). So well done for us jajaja.

    Now the questions:

1 – Being the same domain. Which kind of redirects I have to do?. I haven’t checked any of the both options after the migration (cause I have to migrate new post yet). I mean, Do I really need to check them?

2 – Being the same domains, Do I need redirections to be added in blogger? I’m going to deactivate indexing on blogger.
I understand the reasons to o click second option, the redirections in blogger (although being the same domain I think google is going to send me directly to my “new site”). I have understood that anyway we have to copy the code in blogger or click the option 2, it could be some old post ranked in google that belong to blogspot url and that the reason for this redirection.

3- I don’t understand the first option. What is the pourpouse of clicking it? Send any visit with or witout www. to the main domain?? Please help me with that! jajajaja.

    Many thanks.

    Hi @elbores, you’re welcome!

    1. You should be safe to check both boxes in the redirects settings. This will ensure any posts, pages, archives, labels and RSS feeds are redirected to WP versions.

    2. After the migration is complete, you should remove the custom domain from Blogger like this – https://i.imgur.com/CJpENfq.png. You can then install the redirect template downloaded from the BIE plugin. This will ensure the old blogspot.com links are redirected to the new WP site.

    3. WordPRess should handle the redirection of www and non-www already. To make sure that the new site matches Blogger, you should go to the Settings page in WordPress and make sure the “www” is added to the site settings. For example, if our website was at https://pipdig.co, we would change both settings to https://www.pipdig.co like this – https://i.imgur.com/AaEu2up.png

After making those changes, the BIE plugin and WordPress should be able to redirect all links correctly and safely for the best SEO.

    Hope that helps

    Fisrtly, thanks for the answer

Ok, so then although I have changed manually the permalink on wordpress before the migrate so my new post have now the same url direction than the old ones, it’s a good idea to check both boxes. That was my doubt and still don′t understand at all why to check… Maybe to redirect some ?m=1 or something like that.
I mean I understand checking it if I haven’t changed permalink so the new ones urls are diferent from the blogger one but, also being the same?? hahahahah sorry but I want to be 100% convinced

    One more time MANY THANKS

    Hi @elbores,

That’s correct, it is still best to enable the redirection settings even when using the same permalinks as Blogger. To elaborate, the redirection covers:

    1. Some blog posts will use a different “slug” compared to Blogger. For example, Blogger might use /2020/05/blog-post-slug.html, but WordPress will use /2020/05/blog-post-slug-1.html under some rare circumstances. This is because WordPress cannot have duplicate slugs for posts, whereas Blogger can.

    2. Useless queries such as ?m=1 will be removed and redirected to the proper post on WordPress.

    3. Pages such as /p/page-name.html are redirected to WordPress equivalents.

    4. System pages such as archives and RSS feeds are redirected to WordPress equivalents.

    Ok, many thanks again.

For example, I have put permalink to tag like: “/search/label/” in wordpress as on blogger. This kind of permalink is gonna make something go wrong -and better not to use it- if I click the boxes? I understand that maybe tags are included in redirections.

I’d recommend using the default tag and category permalink structure rather htan changing it to “/search/label/”. You can use either, so I think it makes sense to use the default to keep things simple. There would be no benefit in changing it to “/search/label/”.

If I have a post with a link to a label (blogger structure) and I use default permalink for label in wordpress, it would be redirected? For example:

link to: “…/search/label/Tom Cruise” (blogger structure with spaces in “Tom Cruise”) will be redirected to “…/label/tom-cruise” (wp default permalink structure and no spaces in “tom-cruise”) by clicking both boxes?

This last is one thing I have just noticed, I did not know wp changes spaces by –

    Many thanks
